What's actually in an ice bath build here?

The tub itself is larch or thermowood over a food-grade liner, sized from 1.2x0.8 m for one person up to 1.8x0.9 m for two, sitting on closed-cell insulation with the pipework to the plant insulated as well. Bare hose sitting in tropical sun throws away a third of the cooling capacity — it's the single most common fault we find inspecting somebody else's install.

Why bother with corrosion protection on the chiller?

Because the salt in the air along this coast doesn't let up. Batakan, Manggar and the Klandasan waterfront sit in it every day of the year, and an ordinary condenser coil with brass fittings will pit and start leaking well before the compressor itself wears out. Rain is the second consideration. Plant can't sit in standing water, so chillers go up on a stand under cover with airflow on three sides. That upgrade is a small addition to the quote and roughly doubles how long the unit lasts — for a corporate buyer, that's really the whole case for it.

What the chiller actually draws, and what happens when PLN cuts out

Electrically an ice bath asks for very little — 0.6-1.2 kW, so it needs no PLN upgrade even sitting on 4,400 VA. The engineering that matters is behaviour, not draw: a soft-starting compressor so the board doesn't trip, its own ELCB, and a restart delay so it doesn't snap back on at the exact moment the air conditioning and pumps do after an outage.

The same logic carries over to a compound generator, where a one-HP chiller running alongside a 6 kW sauna heater wants at least 10 kVA of headroom. Because a plunge holds its temperature continuously rather than heating on demand, we also insulate against interruption — lid down, a well-built tub only drifts a couple of degrees through a long outage.

Built for a rotation crew's recovery schedule

Corporate ice baths are a different brief entirely. A recovery room for a rotation crew usually pairs an eight-person sauna with two plunges, runs sixteen hours a day, and gets judged on uptime rather than looks — duplicated filtration, plant you can actually reach, a written service schedule and spares kept locally rather than ordered in. That package starts at an indicative IDR 250 million across four to eight weeks.
