What does a dry sauna Balikpapan specification cover?

We quote a finished, commissioned room, not a flat pack. The scope is written line by line so it can be compared against another tender.

• Wall and ceiling panels: framing, 50 mm rockwool, aluminium foil vapour barrier, 20 mm cavity, cedar or thermowood lining.
• Aspen or abachi benches on concealed fixings, sized so an adult can lie flat on the upper tier.
• A Harvia heater, or Sawo or Tylo, with guard, stones and a digital controller with a weekly timer.
• An 8 mm tempered glass door, calculated supply and extract ventilation, and internal lighting.
• Electrical work from the board to the unit: SiHF heat-resistant cable, dedicated breaker, 30 mA ELCB.

Every dry sauna leaves with a schematic and a service schedule, which matters when the team operating it is not the team that ordered it.

How much power does a dry sauna need on PLN or a generator?

Heater rating follows capacity, and the supply follows the heater. Two people at 1.5x1.2 m take 3.6 kW on 5,500 VA. Four people at 2x2 m take 6 kW on 7,700 VA. Six people at 2.4x2 m take 8 kW and eight people at 3x2.4 m take 9 kW, both on 11,000 VA. Above that the unit moves to three phase, which is normal for a hotel or a crew facility.

The PLN upgrade is paid by the owner, and we give the figure before the deposit rather than after fabrication. Where the compound runs a standby set, we size against it as well: a 6 kW heater with a one HP chiller wants at least 10 kVA of generator headroom, the compressor gets a soft start and the heater contactor a 60-second delay, so the sauna does not strike at the same instant as every air conditioner in the house.

Rain, humidity and the wall build-up

Balikpapan gets rain in every month of the year, and ambient humidity sits near 80 per cent. Inside a cabin that means the vapour barrier is doing continuous work, not seasonal work: without the aluminium foil and the 20 mm ventilated cavity behind the lining, moisture condenses in the insulation and the wall is quietly rotting long before anyone smells it.

Outside, the rules are simpler. Any cabin standing in the open gets its own pitched roof with an overhang, stainless external fixings and a covered step, and local hardwoods such as ulin and bengkirai are used for decking only, never as internal lining. We do not build unroofed outdoor cabins here, and we say so at the survey rather than after the first wet season.

Where we install, and how long it takes

Fabrication takes one to two weeks of material supply, then two to four weeks on site. Most of our dry sauna work sits in Balikpapan Baru, Grand City, Sepinggan, Gunung Bakaran and Klandasan, with corporate projects in mess buildings on the city fringe and hotel work towards Nusantara. Outside the city, transport and accommodation are their own quote lines.

Commissioning is fixed: the cabin is taken to working temperature with you present, the ELCB and ventilation are tested, and the handover pack is signed over.
