Infrared sauna
Infrared saunas for Balikpapan houses on a limited supply
A carbon-panel cabin for one or two people that heats the body directly and needs no supply upgrade.
An infrared sauna in Balikpapan uses carbon panels to warm the body directly at an air temperature of only 45-60 degrees, drawing 1.7-2.4 kW. It is the route for older houses, apartments and short leases. Indicative IDR 30-70 million for a one or two person cabin, on site within a working day or two.

What does an infrared sauna do that a hot cabin does not?
It moves the heat rather than the air. Carbon panels radiate directly onto the skin, so the cabin only needs to reach 45-60 degrees for a session to work, against 70-90 in a timber sauna. Sessions run longer, typically 30-45 minutes, and the experience is gentler, which suits older users and anyone who finds a hot cabin oppressive in a climate already at 31 degrees outside.
- Footprint from 0.9x0.9 m for one person to 1.3x1.1 m for two.
- Carbon or full-spectrum panels on the rear, sides and under the bench.
- Panel control with a timer, interior lighting, audio where it is wanted.
- A glazed front, which keeps a small bedroom or landing from feeling boxed in.
There is no water, no stones and no ventilation shaft, which is why an infrared sauna can be installed where nothing else fits.

Why is an infrared sauna the answer to a weak supply in Balikpapan?
Because a great many houses here are not on compound ratings. Older properties in Klandasan, Prapatan and Gunung Sari Ilir frequently sit on 2,200-4,400 VA, and a PLN upgrade is a cost and a delay the owner has to carry. An infrared sauna at 1.7-2.4 kW draws about what a domestic water heater draws, so it runs on the existing connection.
That also makes it the pragmatic choice on a short lease or in a serviced apartment near Gunung Bakaran, where building management will not entertain electrical alterations. The cabin is delivered, assembled, connected and tested in one to two days, and it can be lifted and taken to the next address without a technician rewiring anything.
Wiring, safety and monthly cost
Low draw does not mean casual wiring. Each cabin gets a dedicated breaker, a 30 mA ELCB and conductors rated for sustained draw, since 45 minutes at full output is a duty no socket circuit was designed around. Panels are secured so they cannot be leaned against, and the controller is mounted where a wet hand will not reach it.
Running cost is IDR 100,000-250,000 a month at three or four sessions a week, the lowest of anything we supply. Warm-up is around fifteen minutes, so the cabin is genuinely usable on a working evening rather than something planned in advance.
Living with a cabin in a humid house
Maintenance is light but not zero. In Balikpapan humidity we recommend running the cabin briefly after a session with the door ajar so the timber dries, wiping the bench, and keeping the unit away from an air-conditioning outlet that would drip onto it. Panels are solid state and carry factory cover; there is nothing to descale and no stones to replace.
If the supply is later upgraded and the household wants the full contrast cycle, an infrared cabin pairs naturally with a cold plunge, and many clients eventually add a dry sauna as well. Figures for all three are on the estimates page.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work as well as a timber sauna?
Differently. The heat load is milder and the session longer; total sweat over 40 minutes is comparable to 12 minutes at 85 degrees. Clients who want the sharp contrast of hot and cold usually end up with both cabins.
Will building management allow one in an apartment?
Usually, because there is no plumbing, no vent penetration and no significant floor load to approve. Lift dimensions and house rules are checked at survey, and that is normally what settles it.
Is it suitable for a rented house?
It is one of the easiest units to justify to a landlord: no structural work, plug-level connection and a one-day removal. For a larger demountable option see the modular sauna page.
Do you sell supply-only?
We prefer not to. The connection is where problems occur and our two-year cover assumes we made it. Ask through the contact page and we will set out what a supply-only order would exclude.
