Every sauna price band on this page already has sea freight folded in — three to four days on the water from Surabaya — plus fitting by our own crew out of the Balikpapan Selatan workshop. Custom sauna IDR 60-120 million, modular IDR 15-35 million, infrared IDR 30-70 million, steam room IDR 50-100 million, cold plunge with chiller IDR 45-90 million. Nine things that push a Balikpapan number higher or lower
- How many people. Every extra 0.4 m of cabin length means another panel, another bench section and roughly 1 kW more on the heater.
- Which timber lines it. Pinewood sits at the low end, red cedar in the middle, thermowood at the top and holds its shape best in this humidity.
- Heater brand and controls. Harvia, Sawo and Tylo price differently per kW, and an app-controlled weekly timer adds a few million rupiah.
- How much glass. Swapping an insulated panel for 8 mm tempered glass adds both the glass itself and roughly 1 kW of extra heater capacity.
- Scope of the electrical work. Board, ELCB, SiHF cable and chiller soft-start are already in our number; only the PLN upgrade to 7,700-11,000 VA sits with the owner.
- Whether a genset is involved. Delayed contactors and soft starters for a compound standby set are a small line item, listed on their own.
- Modular versus fixed. Cam-lock joints and industrial connectors cost a little more up front and save the whole unit when the lease ends.
- Distance from the sea. Titanium exchangers and stainless hardware for Batakan, Manggar and Klandasan addresses.
- Building outdoors. Roof, pad footings, hardwood decking and stainless fittings put a self-contained outdoor cabin at IDR 80-150 million.
What it costs to keep running once it's in
On a household tariff, budget IDR 200,000-500,000 a month for a dry sauna used three or four times a week, IDR 100,000-250,000 for infrared, IDR 300,000-600,000 for a steam room with water included, and IDR 300,000-700,000 for a cold plunge depending on set point and how often the lid stays on. Run the same session off the compound genset instead and a 6 kW heater on a 10 kVA set burns roughly three to four litres of diesel for ninety minutes, warm-up included.
Upkeep follows a fixed rhythm: plunge water turned over every three or four weeks under filtration, heater stones inspected every six months and swapped every two to three years, steam generator descaled every two to three months. Frequently asked questions
Balikpapan's water runs hard. Does that push up what maintenance costs?
A little, over time, though not at install. Hard water is why heater stones on our quotes get replaced every two to three years rather than five, and why a steam generator on mains water needs descaling every two to three months instead of every six. It shows up later as a small annual service line, which we can quote separately if you want us to carry it.
What's actually baked into the headline number, and what lands as an extra?
Baked in: the cabin or tub, heater or chiller, wiring from the board to the unit, installation, commissioning and the two-year warranty. Extra: the PLN upgrade, civil works outside the unit itself such as a new terrace roof or a rebuilt bathroom floor, and travel beyond Balikpapan. Each of those gets its own line.
How is payment structured across a project?
Half up front once the quote and programme are approved, a second instalment when the panels are finished and ready to install, and the balance once commissioning and handover are done. On corporate jobs in Samarinda or Nusantara, stages can be tied to the main contractor's own milestones.

Why isn't Balikpapan pricing identical to a Java-based contractor's quote?
It's close — the gap is roughly three to five per cent of the unit price, and all of it is sea freight on imported material through Surabaya. Panels, benches and tubs are built in our own workshop here, so there's no finished eight-cubic-metre cabin crossing the sea and no technician flown in from Java to bill for.
