The sauna price bands below are indicative and already allow for sea freight of imported materials from Surabaya, three to four days, and for installation by our own crew from the Balikpapan Selatan workshop. What moves a Balikpapan quote up or down?
- Capacity. Each additional 0.4 m of cabin length adds a panel, a bench section and roughly 1 kW of heater rating.
- Interior timber. Pinewood at the bottom of the band, red cedar in the middle, thermowood at the top and the most dimensionally stable in this humidity.
- Heater and controls. Harvia, Sawo and Tylo differ per kW; a weekly timer with app control adds a few million rupiah.
- Glazing. Replacing an insulated wall with 8 mm tempered glass adds both glass cost and about 1 kW of heater capacity.
- Electrical scope. A new board, ELCB, SiHF cable and chiller soft start are in our quote; the PLN upgrade to 7,700-11,000 VA is paid by the owner.
- Generator integration. Delayed contactors and soft starters for a compound standby set are a small, separately stated addition.
- Modular or permanent. Cam-lock joints and industrial connectors cost slightly more at the outset and save the entire unit at the end of a lease.
- Coastal exposure. Titanium exchanger and stainless hardware for Batakan, Manggar and Klandasan addresses.
- Outdoor work. Roof, pad foundations, hardwood decking and stainless fittings put an outdoor cabin at IDR 80-150 million.
- Location. No travel charge inside Balikpapan; Samarinda, Bontang, Penajam and Nusantara are quoted per planned visit including accommodation.
Operating cost once the unit is live
On household tariff, expect IDR 200,000-500,000 a month for a dry sauna at three or four sessions a week, IDR 100,000-250,000 for infrared, IDR 300,000-600,000 for a steam room including water, and IDR 300,000-700,000 for a cold plunge depending on set point and whether the lid is used. Running a session on the compound generator instead, a 6 kW heater on a 10 kVA set uses roughly three to four litres of diesel for ninety minutes including warm-up.
Maintenance is predictable: plunge water changed every three or four weeks with filtration, heater stones checked every six months and replaced every two to three years, steam generator descaled every two to three months. Frequently asked questions
Is a sauna more expensive in Balikpapan than in Java?
By roughly three to five per cent of the unit price, all of it sea freight on imported materials through Surabaya. Panels, benches and tubs are made in our own workshop, so nobody is shipping a finished eight cubic metre cabin across the sea or billing you for technicians flown from Java.
What is included in these figures, and what is not?
Included: the cabin or tub, heater or chiller, electrical work from the board to the unit, installation, commissioning and the two-year warranty. Not included: the PLN upgrade, civil works outside the unit such as a new terrace roof or a rebuilt bathroom floor, and travel beyond Balikpapan. Each appears as its own line.
How are payments staged?
Fifty per cent on approval of the quote and programme, a second payment when the panels are finished and ready to install, and the balance after commissioning and handover. For corporate work in Samarinda or Nusantara, stages can follow the main contractor's milestones.
