What actually goes into a custom sauna brief here?

Most briefs start from a room or terrace that already exists rather than a catalogue size, and from a client who's used a decent sauna somewhere else and knows what they want repeated. We build from the architect's drawings when they exist, and from our own measured survey when they don't.

• 8 mm tempered glass on one to three sides, frameless door, hinges kept out of sight.
• Thermowood or a selected red cedar lining, benches in abachi or aspen, indirect light tucked under the bench nose.
• Backlit onyx or natural stone behind the heater, with a floor-standing Harvia unit wherever the layout leaves room to walk around it.
• App or wall-panel control with a weekly timer, plus audio if the cabin sits inside a larger wellness area.

This is the part that actually justifies the word "custom": panel widths, bench geometry and glass lines are set for one specific room, and fabrication drawings go out before a single cut is made.

Building outdoors when it rains here every month

An outdoor cabin in this city means a roofed structure, full stop — not a box left standing on a lawn. Rain lands in every single month, UV is sharp between showers, and anything left unprotected loses its finish inside one season. So our outdoor spec always starts with a pitched roof and overhang, then adds pad footings that keep the deck above standing water, stainless fixings throughout, and a covered spot to change.

Toward the coast — Batakan, Manggar, the Klandasan seafront — hardware gets upgraded again against salt. A roofed outdoor cabin runs an indicative IDR 80-150 million and goes up in one to two weeks once the footings have cured. Lodges and guest houses springing up for Nusantara traffic order this configuration more often than city households do.

Once you're past six seats, the wiring changes

The electrical design shifts character above six people. Six at 2.4x2 m need 8 kW on 11,000 VA; ten at 3.5x2.6 m need 10.5 kW and three-phase supply; twelve at 4x3 m need 12 kW; a twenty-seat club room runs on two 10.5 kW heaters. Compound houses in Balikpapan Baru and Grand City usually need the PLN upgrade to get there, and that cost sits with the owner.

When a sauna and a plunge share one wellness area, each gets its own circuit and ELCB, and the chiller compressor starts through a soft starter, so power returning after an outage brings the loads back one at a time. As a guide, a hotel or gym sauna starts around IDR 150 million, and a corner combining sauna, plunge and jacuzzi from IDR 250 million.

From the drawing board to the handover folder

The survey is followed by a visual of the cabin in your room and samples of the timber and stone you can hold. We cut nothing until you have signed the drawing and the itemised quote. Fabrication and finishing run four to eight weeks, and the crew that builds the panels is the crew that assembles them on site.
